Fresh Information Limited (Fresh Info) was commissioned by MBIE to evaluate the costs and benefits of hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 (FIFA WWC) in New Zealand. The evaluation compares hosting the event in New Zealand to the alternative of another country, considering economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts. It also includes costs and benefits from the Draw and Play-Off Tournament as well as the main FIFA WWC. The net benefit to New Zealand is estimated at $109.5 million, with a benefit-cost ratio of 1.34. The $101.1 million government investment was justified, with high spectator satisfaction and significant intangible benefits, particularly in enhancing the visibility of women in sport.
