A high-level networking event highlighting committed sports federations and strengthening sport-driven territorial impact
As part of the TAGGAT 2026 programme, the laureates of the “Sport and Sustainable Development” Call for Projects were officially recognized during a dedicated networking event held in Dakar. The event brought together sports federations, institutional partners, development stakeholders, and key actors from Senegal’s sports ecosystem.
This milestone moment celebrated projects that place sport at the heart of inclusion, gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable territorial development, reinforcing TAGGAT 2026’s ambition to support impactful and locally rooted initiatives.
The call for projects aimed to identify innovative strategies capable of addressing major challenges facing the sports sector in Senegal, including equitable access to sport, inclusion of underserved populations, environmental responsibility, and the structuring of federations and clubs.
Following a rigorous selection process, three Senegalese sports federations were distinguished for the quality, relevance, and transformational potential of their projects:
The Senegalese Surf Federation was awarded for its project “The Women’s Wave of Change”, which uses surfing and open-water swimming as tools to promote gender equality, challenge stereotypes, empower young women, and raise awareness around environmental protection while fostering local female leadership.
The Senegalese Karate and Associated Disciplines Federation was recognized for its project “Inclusive and Eco-Responsible Karate”, supporting pilot clubs in integrating gender inclusion, female leadership, and environmental responsibility through participatory and community-based approaches.
The Senegalese Judo and Associated Disciplines Federation was distinguished for its project “Judo at School – Inclusive School Dojos for Girls and Vulnerable Youth”, which introduces judo in school settings to expand access to sport for girls and vulnerable youth, strengthening education, self-confidence, and social inclusion.
Each laureate federation received a grant of 16,400,000 FCFA (approximately €25,000) to support the implementation and scaling of its project across local territories.
Beyond the award ceremony, the TAGGAT 2026 event was conceived as a strategic networking platform, enabling exchanges between laureates, partners, public institutions, and development actors. The networking session fostered synergies, partnership opportunities, and pathways for long-term collaboration.
By combining recognition, financial support, and ecosystem connection, TAGGAT 2026 confirms the role of sport as a powerful lever for inclusive and sustainable development. The selected federations embody a shared vision of a sport that is more equitable, responsible, and deeply anchored in local realities, contributing to long-term territorial resilience beyond the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.
