The Global Sports Impact Fund (GSIF), led by the FiCS Coalition, has officially closed its call for projects, marking a major milestone in the current funding cycle of the Fund.

Launched to support innovative initiatives leveraging sport as a driver of social impact and sustainable development, the GSIF call for projects generated strong global interest, with more than 700 project applications received, primarily from Africa and Latin America. This exceptional response highlights both the relevance of the Fund and the growing momentum of sport-based solutions across emerging regions.

Strong engagement from Africa and Latin America

The majority of applications were submitted by organisations based in Africa and Latin America, reflecting the dynamism of sport-for-impact ecosystems in these regions. Projects address a wide range of social, economic, and environmental challenges, including youth empowerment, social inclusion, gender equality, health promotion, education, and climate action.

This strong participation confirms the importance of dedicated funding mechanisms such as GSIF to support locally driven, innovative initiatives that use sport as a catalyst for sustainable development.

Next steps: evaluation and analysis phase

Following the closure of the call, the FiCS Coalition will now move into a thorough analysis and evaluation phase. All eligible applications will be carefully reviewed to assess their relevance, innovation potential, scalability, and expected impact, in line with the objectives and criteria of the GSIF Fund.

The outcomes of this process, including the selection of supported projects, will be communicated in the coming months.

Through the GSIF Fund, the FiCS Coalition continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact, and to supporting initiatives that demonstrate the transformative power of sport in addressing global development challenges.
