Giants of Africa Unveil Koulikoro Baskeball Court, Launching Dribble for Peace in the Sahel

Koulikoro, Mali — Giants of Africa has officially unveiled the Koulikoro Community Court, marking the launch of the organization’s Dribble for Peace initiative in Africa’s Sahel region. Opened in March 2026, the court represents the 45th facility built under the Built Within program, Giants of Africa’s commitment to constructing 100 community basketball courts across the continent. 

Located just outside Bamako, Koulikoro is a city with a strong basketball culture and a history of producing elite athletic talent. The new court serves as a safe, inclusive space where young people can come together to play, learn, and develop leadership skills in a region facing ongoing economic, social, and environmental challenges. 

The Koulikoro Community Court holds special significance as the first court delivered through the Dribble for Peace initiative, which expands Giants of Africa’s reach to more than ten countries across the Sahel. The program uses basketball as a tool to promote peace, resilience, and social cohesion in communities affected by conflict, climate stress, and limited access to youth infrastructure. 

The court’s design pays tribute to Koulikoro’s deep connection to the Niger River. A basketball rising like a sunrise symbolizes hope, passion, and the promise of a new generation empowered to shape its own future. This artistic approach reflects Giants of Africa’s belief that world-class infrastructure can inspire pride, dignity, and a sense of ownership within the community. 

The official unveiling was preceded by a women’s coaching clinic, underscoring the organization’s strong commitment to gender equity and inclusive participation in sport. Local leaders, community members, and youth took part in the celebration, reinforcing the shared vision of long-term impact through sport, education, and community engagement. 

As the inaugural Dribble for Peace court in the Sahel, the Koulikoro Community Court symbolizes Giants of Africa’s long-term promise to invest in young people across the region. By creating safe spaces to play and grow, the organization continues to demonstrate how sport can serve as a powerful driver of peace, opportunity, and sustainable development.
