General Overview
The FIBA Foundation opened the Propose a Project 2026 call on 1 January 2026, running until 1 March 2026. The programme invites National Basketball Federations and community organisations worldwide to submit Basketball For Good initiatives that contribute to social impact and the SDGs. In 2025, the platform received 332 applications, of which 73 projects were supported.
Vision and Objectives
The initiative strengthens organisations using basketball as a tool for empowerment, education, inclusion, and community transformation. It reinforces the global Basketball For Good movement by offering financial, material, and mentoring support to impactful grassroots initiatives.
Eligible Project Categories
Applicants must select one of the following five thematic areas:
- Basketball for Health & Wellbeing
- Basketball for Gender Equality
- Basketball for Refugees and Displaced People
- Basketball for People with Disabilities
- Basketball for Climate Action.
Type of Support Provided
Successful projects may receive:
- Financial support
- Equipment donations
- Mentorship and technical guidance
- Acess to the wider Basketball For Good community and exchange opportunities.
Application Process
Applicants must follow the official guidelines and provide a letter of support from their National Basketball Federation. Proposals undergo an initial assessment by the Basketball For Good Advisory Committee, with final decisions made by the FIBA Foundation Board.
Timeline
- Opening: 1 January 2026
- Application deadline: 1 March 2026
- Selected projects announced: End of June 2026.
