To achieve sustainable development and community empowerment, investment in sustainable and resilient infrastructure is essential. Goal 9 affirms the need for investment in infrastructure and the importance of technological innovation in order to achieve sustainable growth.

How can sport address this issue ?

By adopting sustainable, inclusive policies with a strong legacy component, the sports industry and the organisers of major international sports events, such as World Cups and the Olympic Games, can contribute to the achievement of Goal 9 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Through the building or renovation of innovative and resilient infrastructure (such as transport, energy, and information and communication technologies), the empowerment of communities through capacity-building, and the creation of decent jobs, sport can contribute to the sustainability of society and its economic, social and environmental development.
